His breakthrough came in 2001 when Judd Apatow cast him in a recurring role on the television series Undeclared. Although the series only lasted one season, he quickly landed additional roles in films such as Paper Soldiers (2002), Scary Movie 3 (2003), Soul Plane (2004), In the Mix (2005), and Little Fockers (2010).

Hart was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 6, 1979. He was raised in a single-parent household by his mother, Nancy Hart.
She worked as a systems analyst for the University of Pennsylvania’s Office of Student Registration and Financial Services.

Hart’s first gig was as Lil Kev at Philadelphia’s The Laff House, which did not go well. His career began slowly, as he was repeatedly booed off stage and once had a piece of chicken thrown at him. Following those initial failures, Hart began entering comedy competitions throughout Massachusetts, and his performances eventually gained a following.
Hart rose to prominence following his appearance as a guest star on Undeclared. He made his feature film debut in Paper Soldiers. Hart later gained additional recognition for his roles in Scary Movie franchise films, Soul Plane, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Death at a Funeral, and Little Fockers. He declined a role in the 2008 film Tropic Thunder due to his own “insecurities” about the character’s homosexuality.
Along with acting, Hart has hosted several ceremonies. Hart hosted the 2011 BET Awards for the first time, and Hart then hosted the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. His longtime friend Judd Apatow, the director who gave him his first big break on screen with the television series Undeclared, recommended him for the gig.
Hart expressed hope that this would propel him further into a side career as an emcee, stating, “Hopefully after MTV, we’re talking Emmys, Oscars, whatever.” He has hosted three Saturday Night Live episodes. In February 2010, Kevin and Torrei Hart filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Hart requested joint custody of their two children, Heaven Leigh, born on March 22, 2005, and Hendrix, born on October 8, 2007. In November 2011, the divorce was finalized.
