Henry and Lisa Garcia gave birth to Ryan Garcia on August 8, 1998, in Victorville, California. Sergio Garcia, his uncle, is also a boxer.
Like his uncle Sergio, Ryan’s dad Henry wanted to compete in the ring as a boxer. However, unlike Sergio, he went on to become a coach. His mother, Lisa, is his administrative assistant for commercial projects.
Ryan has four younger siblings; three sisters and one brother. He began boxing with his brother Sean when he was seven and with his best friend Lawrence The Dawg King when he was nine. For the 15th year in a row, Ryan gained recognition as a national amateur boxing champion. He compiled an impressive win-loss record of 215-15 as an amateur boxer.

According to DAZN, Garcia will fight the former WBA (Regular) super featherweight champion Javier Fortuna on April 13, 2021, to defend his newly won WBC interim lightweight title. The WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney would become the mandatory opponent for the winner of the contest on July 9.
Former IBF super featherweight champion Joseph Diaz agreed to fill in for Garcia on July 9 and fight Fortuna in his place.
