Rajat Sharma (Born Feb. 18, 1957) is the founder and chairman of India Tv. He is popularly known as an anchor and creator of the very famous news show ”Aap ki Adalat.”

Rajat cast the first show of ”AAP ki Adalat” with cheap guest Lalu prasad Yadav on Mar. 14, 1993, in association with Zee news, but later, he shifted this show on his news channel, India tv, in 2004.

Rajat Sharma became India’s third citizen who receives the Padam Bhushan award for his contribution to journalism.

Rajat was born on 18 February 1957 in Karolbagh, Old Delhi in a poor joint family of 8 members (6 brothers, 1sister) who lived in a small house of a single room which is around 100 square feet.

The early life of Rajat was very hilarious and struggling. In some of his interviews, he told the audience that many times, he had to sleep without eating food, and for studying he had to go to the railway station because of no electricity connection, and for the bath, he had to go to municipal handpumps because of no water connection.

Sharma did his schooling at Ramjas School, Pusa Road (Karol bagh). He did graduate In commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi Karolbagh. At the time of college, he had face a lot of challenges due to poverty.

His college senior friend Arun Jaitley (former Finance Minister of India) deposited Rajat’s college fees. During college, Rajat started giving tuition to school students for college expenses.

Career:-

After completing college with Masters’s degree [m.com] he was hired as a writer for the magazine Ananda Bazar Patrika by Janardhan Thakur for a new column with a salary of 400 INR per month. This magazine was published by a company named Onlooker magazine.

Later, he joined Onlooker magazine and worked as a trainee and later went on to become its editor in 1985. After four years he quitted his job and shifted to Mumbai and joined Sunday observer as an editor and later on Daily again as a senior editor.

The year 1992 was the turning point of his career, during a flight to New Delhi he got a conversation with Subash Chandra who is the founder of Zee news and this led to the foundation of show ”Aap ki Adalat”.

The first show of ”Aap ki Adalat” was published on 14 March 1993 with Lalu prasad Yadav (The former chief minister of Bihar). Rajat Sharma interviewed more than 800+ guests on his show ”Aap ki Adalat”.

”Aap ki Adalat” was the first news show who gain huge popularity within 6 months of its release and became one of the most viewed news show in India.

In 2004 he started his own news channel India tv and shifted ”Aap ki Adalat” from zee news to India tv. ”Aap ki Adalat” recently celebrated 26 years of broadcasting and thereby it became the longest-running show in India.
