Career:-
In 1979, he met bassist Eric Wilson, and the two formed The Juice Bros, their first garage punk band. In 1986, they joined Sublime as founding members. Gaugh departed the band about 1990, according to Marshall Goodman, for unknown reasons. Gaugh would not be a part of the two tours that followed the release of the 40 oz. to Freedom album in 1992, nor would he be the primary drummer on it.
Gaugh would re-join the band for the album Robbin’ the Hood, which was released in 1994. Sublime split in 1996 after lead vocalist Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose. In 1997, the Long Beach Dub Allstars were created. Right Back was the title of their first album, which was published in 1999.
Gaugh was a drummer in the Eyes Adrift band with Krist Novoselic, Curt Kirkwood, and Curt Kirkwood. He went on to join Volcano with Kirkwood after Eyes Adrift split.
In early 2009, it was announced that Gaugh would be reuniting at Cantina Los Tres Hombres Sparks, Nevada, on Feb 28 with Rome Ramirez (new guitarist and frontman) replacing Bradley Nowell. After receiving positive feedback, the band decided to reunite in August 2009 for a possible new album and tour.
The band had to change their name after a Los Angeles judge prohibited the new lineup from using Sublime’s name shortly after the Oct 2009 performance at Cypress Hill Smokeout Festival. Sublime with Rome was the new lineup that included Eric Wilson, Bud Gaugh, and Rome Ramirez. Yours Truly, a debut album, was released July 12, 2011.
Gaugh left Sublime With Rome on December 10, 2011. Josh Freese replaced him. In a budztv.com interview, Gaugh stated that he regretted Sublime’s tour and recording with Rome. Although I didn’t want it in the first instance, I was convinced to do so. I apologize to the fans and certain people for trying to justify or convince them to do it. Gaugh was asked about the feeling of playing Sublime songs over and over again. Playing the songs, but instead playing them under the name Sublime without Brad.
Gaugh answered no to a question about a future reunion of the band. Eric Wilson would be a great guitarist, but I wouldn’t mind playing music with him.
Gaugh was featured on Finding Bigfoot in 2016, where he and his long-time friend James “Bobo” Fay explored the wilderness to find the mysterious beast.
